Peru and all of Latin America are facing a crisis in maternal health. With a minimal budget for health, new mothers face many difficulties in the early days of their children’s lives. Formula consumption has exploded in the region, making breastfeeding very difficult to maintain for mothers who quickly have to return to work and do not have prolonged breastfeeding periods as in other countries. Added to this is the misleading advertising of many formula milk companies.
I made this comic to share my experience as a new mother within the framework of the World Celebration of Breastfeeding month, trying to document the difficulties mothers encounter due to the lack of social policies that are supported by health professionals, the State and society.
